Summer Fun 2011

So I’ve seen all kinds of fun summer to do lists all over the blogosphere. I decided to make my own that worked for me.  I designed it in PSE then printed it at Sam’s club. It cost $6 for a 16x20 print, a steal of a deal!2011 summer fun 16x20

I found a frame on clearance at Hobby Lobby and spray painted it red and hung it up on the pantry in our kitchen.  I’ll let the kids choose 2-3 activities each week for us to do. Some of the things we will do a lot, like swimming and sprinklers and going to the library; but others will be special things that we don’t always get to do. We’ll cross out the activities as we do them. Hopefully it will be  a fun summer and we will stay busy and happy!

If you want a copy of the PSE file or Jpeg, just leave a comment and I’ll email it to you .If  you have PSE you can just change the activities so they suit you and your family. Some of these things are just in Arkansas. I’ll try to blog about the activities we do, the successful ones anyway!

Happy Summer!!!

Olivia Photo Shoot

Pam asked me to take some pictures of Olivia. She is turning 3 next week and was in need of some updated pictures.  We found a good empty field and started shooting.  We were a little worried because Livy does not like looking at the camera; but with a little bribery of a Dora treat if she smiled Livy did a great job! Here are my favorites. For those wondering I used some of the Pioneer Woman actions Boost-one of my faves, and colorized. I love the actions because if you don’t like how it looks you just undo it.

Willette Photography Class

Brandy told me about a free online photography class. I signed up because I am always trying to improve my photography skills and I can always afford FREE! If you are interested check it out here, you can still sign up for it! Anyway I thought I would post my assignments on here every few days. Each day we get a different assignment. I am using my Nikon D40 camera.

DAY 01: what they do

This can apply to anything your loved ones “do”….what do they do for work?  What do they do for play?  What chores do they do around the house?  Find something they “DO” and document it. We also had to find good lighting in our house and to pay attention to light sources. I shot in manual mode, which I am still not completely sure I understand what I am doing, but my pictures are turning out pretty good.

I couldn’t decide on just 1 picture so I am using two.

willette day 1

my photo settings were: f/4.5, Aperture f/4.10, shutter speed 1/30th, ISO 800 I used my 55-200mm lens

Kaylee loves to play in the kitchen. She has multiple tea parties every day  and is always bringing me something yummy to eat! I didn’t get a good picture of her looking at me, but I liked this picture of her focusing on what she is “making.”

willette day 1v1

my photo settings were: f/4.5, shutter speed 1/500th, Aperture f/4.00, ISO 800 I used my 55-200mm lens

Averi loves her Binkie…she is our only one that has taken a pacifier. Do you see the peanut butter on her cheek?  The 4th child is kind of neglected sometimes! This is in our play room in front of a window. We don’t get the evening light on the back of the house, but it still gave off enough light for a good picture of her eyes.

DAY 02 how they look

Capture your loved one at their best (or at their worst).  Or both.  What you’re trying to capture is the TRUE essence/expression/attitude/posture that SCREAMS your loved one!  (and remember, your loved one can be ANYONE or any pet...and you don’t have to photograph the same person for each assignment).

camera tip for today:
POSITION
Pay attention to your body position when you photograph.  If your subject is little, make sure to get down on his or her level.

I pulled  out my 50mm lens today. I have a love/hate relationship with this lens. I love the results I get with it, but it does not autofocus with my camera so I have lots of unfocused shots when I use it; shots that would have been great if I had autofocus. There is a 35 mm lens that autofocuses with my camera, but at a $200 price tag it will be a little while until I can get it, maybe I’ll just get a new camera.

willette day 2 2

my photo settings were: f/1.80, Aperture f/1.70, shutter speed 1/80th, ISO 800 I used my 50 mm lens

Averi is showing me here teeth. She now has 5 teeth! 2 on bottom and 3 on top. I was sitting on the floor to take this picture and she kept coming to get in my lap and climb on me.

my photo settings were: f/1.80, Aperture f/1.70, shutter speed 1/40th, ISO 800 I used my 50 mm lens

This is how my kids look watching TV. I loved that they were all 3 sitting in the big green chair together and not fighting. I think they were watching Kipper.

Averi’s Big Bash

Averi’s birthday was Saturday and we had a little birthday party for her. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and it was warm enough for the kids to play outside.

Here’s the invitation I made. I made it in Photoshop and just printed out 5X7 prints and stuck them in the mail.

Here’s the birthday girl in her party outfit. Don’t you just love her hot pink shoes?!

Jim got a few shots of me with the birthday girl-I am so happy we were blessed with this little ray of sunshine. She completed our family!

I had so much fun making things for her party. I bought a clip art kit from Etsy and used it to make her invitation, cupcake toppers, a banner and tags for the party favors. I loved how everything turned out and how easy it was!

While the kids played outside, the adults enjoyed the yummy food--nuggets from Chick-fil-A, spinach dip, and bacon bread were a few of things we had

Jim had to get a picture of me holding Tessa on Averi’s birthday. Tessa is my little buddy, if I’m around she wants me to hold her. Usually I end up holding her and Averi and it reminds me of when Kaylee & Matthew were little. I love little Tessa.

The weather was perfect for the bounce house. We kicked the big kids off so that Averi & Tessa could go on it. They had so much fun on the bounce house. That bounce house was the best purchase ever!

Averi birthday cake copy

I made Averi’s cake. I checked a flower cake pan out from the library and decorated it myself. She was so excited to dig in! She really enjoyed it!

The kids were so cute singing to Averi and watching her eat her cake. They were excited to finally get to eat a cupcake!

Family Pictures

While we were in Boise Jim's sister Cathy took some family pictures for us. Here are some of the best.
Here's one of the best ones, the one below I ran a Seventies action on it (from Pioneer Woman). I am kinda hooked on the action and used it on a lot of the pictures. What do you think of it or do you prefer the "natural" look. I haven't printed any out yet so give me your honest opinion!

One of us walking

Everyone's looking but not smiling, I still like it though in front of the doors

Everyone's feet with Averi

These are fun

Averi wouldn't smile, but I think this one is cute of her
I love the intense look on Matthew's face in this picture
I think this is an awesome picture of Matthew, it just captures his big personality so well!
Not the happiest looks on the kids faces, but I like it..
Thomas
The Girls
The Boys

The background is kind of funny on this one, but I think it is a great picture of Jim and I.
So what do you think...some I edited and some I just left alone...
Oh and if you just look at my blog and reader, come on over to the blog and check out the new header I made.
