4th of July

After the party on Saturday night we stopped at a fireworks stand an bought some fireworks for the 4th. Then later that night Jim checked our city's website and found out we are not allowed to shoot off fireworks here...so Sunday morning I called my mom to see if we could bring dinner and come hang out with them and shoot our fireworks off at their house. She said that would be fine (of course!) so after church we changed and headed to Grandma DeVaux's house.

When I was getting the kids clothes out for church I realized I could dress them all in red, white and blue...of course I didn't get a good picture of all of them, just our typical picture where they won't look at the camera at the same time!
The kids were excited because we hadn't been there in a couple of weeks. We grilled burgers and hot dogs and mom made her yummy baked beans and some homemade ice cream.  We found a great little farmers market and bought a watermelon on Saturday. The kids enjoyed it after dinner. I cut it up and took it outside and they all chowed down. It was one of the best watermelons I've had in a long time!
I think Kaylee ate about 8 slices of it!
My parents live on a really quiet street, well when we are there it is LOUD, but there aren't many cars on it so we can do the fireworks in the middle of the street. The kids loved the black snakes, as soon as they were done "growing" they would smash them with a stick. (I'm not sure what happened to Kaylee & Matthew's shorts, they always seem to get wet at Grandma's house and take off clothing!) They also liked throwing the poppers, I remember those were always a favorite of mine when I was a kid.  Jim enjoyed being the fireworks master, but I know he will enjoy it when Micha and Pam are back in town and Micha can take back over, he buys a lot more fireworks than we do anyway!

When it got dark Jim did the bigger fireworks, Matthew was inside watching Star Wars, he was pretty tired from all the late nights we have had. After the fireworks were done we put the kids in their pj's and loaded them into the van. They fell asleep on the way home. It was a fun 4th of July!

The kids still won't eat watermelon! I love it, so how can I have kids who don't?! Love the pictures! Looks like a lot of fun!

Fun! I think we forgot that it was the 4th and didn't do anything. What great memories.
