1 Year Stats!

Kaylee at 1 year:

She weighs 18 lbs 7oz and is 28 3/4 inches long. She's in the 5oth percentile for height and 25th for weight. She loves to carry things around that she finds around the house. She'll bring Thomas his clothes if he leaves them on the floor, it's really cute. She loves her bunny and hugs him at night when she gets in her crib. Her favorite foods are carrots, green beans, rice cakes, anything chocolate, turkey (she can eat 5 pieces for lunch!), and graham crackers. She is all girl, but she can hold her own with her brothers.

Matthew at 1 year:

He weighed in at 20 lbs 4.5 oz and is 30 1/4 inches long. He's in the 75th percentile for height and 25th for weight. Matthew will eat just about anything. His favorite foods are whatever we're eating. We were at a Mexican restaurant the other night and he was dipping chips in salsa and loving it! He couldn't get enough of it. He is into climbing on anything and everything. He loves to climb on the parking garage he got for his birthday. He loves to play outside, especially on the slide. He's always got bumps and bruises on his head. He loves little spaces and cubbies. He likes to look at the pictures around our home. He has you carry him around and he points to the different pictures and we tell him who it is. He's a big pointer!
Thomas took this picture. K & M thought it was pretty cool to sit in the little chairs, of course they climbed up on top of the table.

Oh the fireplace. Matthew was the first to learn how to climb up onto it and Kaylee wasn't fall behind. They are proud of themselves when they get up on it.
So we're having Thomas wear underwear all the time now, except for at night. He still isn't going on his own; I have to remind him every 30 minutes or so. He is occasionally pooping in the potty, but mostly in his underwear, he doesn't seem to care. Does anyone have any advice. I've heard about the just going naked thing and I've tried it for just a little while, but he ends up playing with himself (sorry if this is T.M.I.), anything else I can try? He's gotta be potty trained by Sept. so he can go to Mother's Day Out. Maybe I'll just let my awesome Sisters-In-Law potty train him when we're in Boise? Any takers :) J/K!

Here's a video of them walking with their shoes on. They don't wear shoes much but I'm trying to get them used to them so it isn't so weird once it is cold. They found their shoes in the diaper bag yesterday and both were trying to put them on so I put them on and got a video of them walking.

Here are the twins in their crib. This is what they do when they wake up, they both stand up and rattle their crib and throw their things out.

Well, having potty-trained 3 boys you would think I'd have some great advice, but really every kid is different. Most important I have learned you can't force them to be potty trained. Also, the going naked thing really worked for all my boys because it was easier to get on the potty in time and they were more aware when they had to go. Wearing a long t-shirt might help with the other issue! ;) Good luck!!

I was so frustrated with Kalyn because she just didn't care about the potty. It was too big of a distraction from everything else. One day she just quit having accidents. She had to decide when was the right time. Sorry--I know it isn't any help, but don't get frustrated...he will get it when he is ready.

I started potty training Ella (this is of course what worked with her) and we were having a lot of accidents. I kept having to remind her to go. Finally I heard somewhere that you have to let them choose to go. So I came up with a phrase (I'm sure other people have used it before), "Ella, make sure you are listening to your girl parts so you don't have an accident."
Once she started making the choice to go, or to wait too long, then she was responsible. That included clean up. After a while, she just had fewer and fewer accidents. We still cannot sleep at night without a diaper and occassionally forget to go to the bathroom on time, but it's getting better. I don't know if that helps, but it's made things easier. The naked thing didn't work. Panties or naked had the same outcome - just gave more access for playing...girls do it too.

We let the boys run around in long tee-shirts and bare bottom in the summer. However, Jack was still having accidents when he started pre-school (a month and a half before he turned four). His teacher told him no field trips unless he was accident free for two weeks, and he hasn't had an accident since. We're training Elly right now, and she's much easier. James wasn't too bad either. Jack was our stubborn one.

Want more advice? Aunt Mary told me this one. When he does go to the bathroom make a huge deal of it. Jump up and down, hurray, hurrah, be more excited than ever, run around the house hollering, etc. Let him no how proud you are when he goes. He'll want to get your out-of-control praise and do it again. You could make a big deal how he went on his own, etc. Hang in there - whatever works for your family, it will happen soon! --Melanie
